Paul Harding Jr. High and East Allen University Celebrates Major Construction Milestone with Topping Off Ceremony for New School
East Allen County Schools celebrated a significant milestone on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 12:30 pm with a topping off ceremony for the new Paul Harding Jr. High and East Allen University, marking the placement of the final structural beam on the school’s framework.
The ceremony brought together school leaders, construction partners, educators, students, and community members to recognize the progress of a project that will serve generations of learners to come.
The topping off celebration is a long-standing construction tradition symbolizing progress, safety, and the collective efforts of everyone involved in bringing a building to life. During the event, attendees had the opportunity to sign the final beam before it is lifted into place atop the structure.
“This ceremony represents more than steel and concrete — it represents opportunity, growth, and our commitment to providing students with a modern learning environment where they can thrive,” said Marilyn Hissong, superintendent. “We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to making this vision a reality.”
Once completed, the new school will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, advanced technology, and areas designed to support academic achievement, student wellness, and community engagement. The facility is expected to open in the fall of 2027.
The project reflects the community’s investment in education and its dedication to creating safe, innovative spaces that inspire learning and prepare students for the future.
“Our students deserve facilities that match their potential,” said Charles Washington, principal of Paul Harding Jr. High. “Today’s milestone reminds us that we are building more than a school — we are building a foundation for success for future generations.”
Construction on the new school began in the summer of 2025 and remains on schedule. Additional milestones and community updates will be shared throughout the remainder of the project.
