Damarcus Wright – Mental Attitude Award Winner – New Haven High - Basketball
The Arthur L Trester Award Mental Attitude Award is a prestigious honor given annually. The criteria for the award is a senior student who is nominated by the principal and coach. The nominee excels in mental attitude, athletic ability, scholarship and leadership during their 4 years in high school. New Damarcus Wright was nominated and was the winner of the 2026 award in basketball.
During his time at New Haven High School, DaMarcus consistently demonstrated tremendous leadership and a commitment to personal growth. He is not one to speak about leadership in words; instead, he embodies it through his daily actions and his remarkable ability to guide others in a positive direction. His influence is both genuine and impactful, making those around him better teammates, students, and individuals.
DaMarcus has made it a personal goal to lead through inclusion. He goes out of his way to ensure that every individual feels welcomed and valued within our school community. Whether through a simple smile or a greeting to someone he has never met, his intentional reflects a selfless character that puts others first. These small but meaningful gestures have had a profound effect on the culture at New Haven High School.
On the basketball court, DaMarcus was equally inspiring. In moments when his team faced adversity or struggles to work cohesively, he led by example. His composure, determination and ability to rally his teammates with wisdom and grace consistently drive them towards a strong finish. There is no doubt that DaMarcus is a significant reason the team reached the level of competing for the Indiana State Championship.
His mental toughness, resilience, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others embody the true spirit of the Mental Attitude Award. His presence alone elevates the environment around him, and his example inspires others to rise to their best.
DaMarcus Wright is the only EACS student athlete to ever win this prestigious award in EACS history!
CONGRATULATIONS DAMARCUS!
