Secretary of the Year

Jodie has been the secretary, registrar, treasurer, and bookkeeper at Cedarville Elementary School for 9 years. She has supported not only the school of 800 K-3rd grade students, but their 1600 guardians/parents and our community stakeholders. Jodie is also the "go-to" secretary for the corporation, writing the handbook for secretaries across the district during COVID to help and support all secretaries. She has created checklists and supports for secretaries to use during enrollment and registration processes to simplify complexities from many families.

She piloted the corporation's ability to make purchases from Amazon which has been a gamechanger for the entire corporation, saving money and helping all our schools making cost-effective purchases from this open vendor versus inflated costs from other approved vendors. She created all the step-by-step processes for secretaries and bookkeepers to complete these purchases.

Jodie has also piloted the corporation usage of transportation applications (Samsara) for secretaries to track their school buses to support parents when they call, asking where their child's bus is. She supports parents with downloading Edulog which tells families where their child's bus is as well.

Jodie goes above and beyond for the corporation, but also for students. She is the check-in adult for 2 students at Cedarville. They go to her to check in for the day and to start the day in a positive way with affirmations. This is sometimes during the busiest time in the office at arrival. Jodie finds a way to support families by signing in late, but also making those students feel wanted, welcomed, supported and glad to be seen.

Mrs. Peters said, “As one of the hardest working people I know, Jodie does all these things and more, with a smile on her face every day, greeting our families in the kindest manner possible. Her kindness has de-escalated frustrations and open communications during traumatic moments for families and students. I can't think of anyone more deserving during my 26 years of education, than Jodie Miller for Indiana's Secretary of the Year”.
