Honoring Mille

On August 8th, a 2-year-old boy went missing at his home on Tillman Road in New Haven. According to police, the child had wandered into a cornfield right by the home, disappearing among its towering rows.

The boy’s parents called 911.

Within minutes, officers from the New Haven Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, and Indiana State Police were on scene.

K-9 Millie and Officer Moord were present in the search. As the search stretched on, Millie signaled she had picked up a scent. Following her lead, officers walked roughly 500 yards into the cornfield, where they found the boy safe.

Millie is one of the newest members of the team, joining just a few months ago, making an exceptional start to her work on the New Haven Police Department.

Millie is a 3-year-old Yellow Lab. She is trained and continues to train in narcotics detection and will be trained in gun powder detection.  Millie was sworn in the New Haven Police Department by Mayor McDonald on Tuesday, August 26th.

Officer Moord and Officer Millie, the board of school trustees and superintendent hissong and the entire EACS family we thank you for your hard work and dedication in serving our families and residents.
