Julianna Ocampo, Indiana’s 2025 Wrestler of the Year!
New Haven junior Julianna Ocampo made history at the recent Indiana High School Athlete Association wrestling state finals by becoming the first girls wrestler to medal during the boys wrestling state finals. Ranked seventh in the state at 106, Ocampo placed sixth in her third-career state finals appearance.
Ocampo began wrestling as a toddler and was inspired by her two older brothers, her father (Samuel) and her elder sister (Alyssa), who also wrestled.
Ocampo has wrestled all her life and is already a decorated athlete. She’s made team USA three times She’s gone to Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Lima, Peru.
“She’s won three gold medals, and she has her sixth placement at boy’s state. She has a Super 32 title — one of the toughest wrestling tournaments for high schools — and she’s a three-time girls state champion for high school.
She says her end goal is to be an Olympic gold medalist She said, “I know I can do it,” “I know I have people around me supporting me, and they know I can do it do.”
“When she says she wants to be an Olympian, there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s capable of doing that” Coach Linn said. “She’s beaten Division 1 talent her entire life. “She’s creating a legacy — not only for herself, but for young women in general,” he added. “She’s been a catalyst for the female programs in general around the state.”

In 2025, Julianna Ocampo from New Haven High School was named the Indiana Girls Wrestler of the Year, according to the Indiana High School Sports Awards. She was recognized for her outstanding achievements in girls wrestling. As for Julianna Juliana is still deciding on her next steps after high school. She’s been offered a full-ride scholarship to King University, though more opportunities are coming to her every day. She also has the chance to visit and tour the Olympic Training Center. She aspiring to be in the 2028 Olympics!
