East Allen County Schools (EACS) special education services are
available to students ages three through twenty-one who are identified
as having significant learning difficulties caused by one or more of the
following conditions: autism spectrum disorder, communication disorder,
developmental delay, emotional disability, hearing impairment, learning
disability, mental disability, orthopedic impairment, other health
impairment, traumatic brain injury or visual impairment.
Educational
evaluations are conducted by a multi-disciplinary team for those
students who are suspected of having a disability which significantly
impacts their educational performance. The team uses standardized
testing instruments. These may include tests of intelligence,
achievement, visual-motor functioning, receptive/expressive language,
adaptive behavior or emotionality. Contact the Executive Director of
Special Services for more information.
Gifted and Talented Services.....
Students
in the elementary grades are identified as highly-able learners through
an evaluation process which includes standardized testing of cognition,
achievement, and learning characteristics, as well as staff
recommendations. Programs which include curricular changes are offered
to address the special needs of gifted and talented students.
Differentiated coursework and advanced placement classes are available
for academically talented students at the secondary level. Contact the
Executive Director of Special Services for more information.
