Shappell with School Board

Mr. Ben Shappell has been chosen as the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly 2017 Education Awards winner in the Science category. Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly and the EACS Board of Trustees and superintendent recently paid tribute to Mr. Shappell for his 14 years of dedication to EACS students.

After beginning in biology pre-vet and then majoring in biology pre-med at Purdue University, Mr. Shappell realized after some field experience that, although he loved science, medicine was not the field he wanted to be in.  After a year of working in sales, he had an opportunity to either go into pharmaceutical sales or to teach junior high math and science on a temporary license.  He chose to teach and never looked back.  Now, he teaches the biomedical sciences and works with students who want to go into the medical field.  His passion for science is evident every day in the classroom.

Mr. Shappell is also a Project Lead the Way Master Teacher and trains other teachers around the country, so their students can experience the biomedical sciences as well.

He enjoys his job every day, but the icing on the cake is hearing from his former students about the successes they experience as they move on to college and life after college.

Congratulations Ben Shappell!
