Facility Concerns

East Allen County Schools currently has sixteen (16) buildings that it maintains predominately through its Capital Projects Fund.  On an annual basis, East Allen County Schools updates its three year Capital Projects Plan to identify and prioritize what facility projects (construction, renovations, and repairs) that can be done.  <Click Here> to view the most current Capital Projects Plan.  Some of the basic questions asked about facilities included:

Why does EACS not have air conditioning in all of the gymnasiums?
When EACS air conditioned its schools the primary reasons that gyms were not was the additional initial cost to install and the increase in operating costs.

Why does EACS has carpeting in schools, when it is easier to clean tile?
EACS has a mixture of schools that have carpet or tile in hallways and classrooms.  Some of the schools when originally built had carpet in hallways and cafeteria.  It it EACS' Plan for the future to tile hallways and cafeterias and have a combination of carpet and tile in classrooms.  This is was EACS did in the most recent construction projects at Heritage K-12 and Woodlan K-12.  The type of carpet and tile that EACS will purchase will be very durable and easy to maintain.

How does EACS address asbestos that is contained within its buildings?
East Allen County Schools buildings are safe.  EACS maintains an asbestos management plan that identifies where asbestos is located and the type.  Maintenance and custodian staff have been properly trained on asbestos awareness.  An annual asbestos letter is posted at each school and on the district's website.  As East Allen has renovated facilities, friable and nonfriable asbestos has safely been removed.

How does EACS resolve building issues?
East Allen County Schools has an internal maintenance department that addresses building concerns.  EACS utilizes a work order system to report issues and track the status of the repairs.  Based on the type of issue, EACS either handles the repair internally or contracts with outside contractors to correct the problem.  East Allen County Schools also has annual inspections done by outside firms to make sure that various items are safe and work properly, such as bleachers, elevators, and fire protection equipment.
