 Procedure Guidelines for Kindergarten Early Entrance Waiver

East Allen County Schools guidelines require that students entering kindergarten in the fall must be five years of age on or before August 1 of that school year.  However, a child whose birthday falls on August 2nd through August 31 may enter kindergarten if he or she meets the early entrance requirements.


  1. Parents must submit a completed application (Kindergarten Early Entrance Waiver) on or before June 1 of that school year to the office of EACS Student Services.The office is located at 1000 Prospect Avenue, New Haven, IN 46774.If the student resided outside of the district and moves into EACS after June 1, the application must be submitted before July 31.
  2. Upon receiving the application, the office of Student Services will review the application and forward to the appropriate school.
  3. The school principal and a committee of kindergarten teachers will review the application and schedule a meeting with student and parents.
    • The student will participate in an individual screening.The screening instrument is designed to demonstrate sufficient and appropriate readiness for a kindergarten experience.
    • The assessor will provide screening results and make a recommendation to the building principal.
  4. The school principal will notify the parents of screening results and determination of entrance waiver.
  5. If a waiver is granted, parents must complete the student enrollment process.

 NOTE:  Applications for Kindergarten Early Entrance Waiver may be obtained at the elementary school, EACS district website and the office of Student Services.
