We’re excited to begin using My Big Campus (MBC) as a service for teachers and students to safely engage one another online. It’s safe because My Big Campus is an online extension of the classroom that’s tightly integrated with our school network and Internet filter and was developed and designed specifically for educational purposes.
We’ll be using MBC in a variety of ways to: learn Internet safety and digital citizenship, extend classroom discussions, collaborate on projects, keep track of assignments, and more.
My Big Campus includes:
- Easy access to good educational resources included in its Resource Library
- Collaborative learning through groups, wiki pages, discussions, blogs, closed messaging, event calendaring, and more
- Private file storage for anywhere access to works in progress--eliminating the need for thumb drives
- Extensive monitoring and reporting
Students must agree to the My Big Campus terms of use and use their real names so that there is no anonymity on the site. They are also required to use their school network username and password to login. Everything a user posts/creates/uploads is recorded—and can be seen and printed at any time by system administrators and teachers.
Finally, My Big Campus is accessible from school, home, or anywhere at www.myBigCampus.com. At this time parents will need to fill in three fields to access My Big Campus. You will need to use your child’s school id for the username and their first name for the password, and then type in their school name, click Login.
In the near future, My Big Campus is creating a parent portal where you will be able to log-in with parent credentials and have access to all your child’s groups and work.
Looking forward to seeing some increased student involvement and collaboration!
